Hiking Trail to be Named in Honor of Jon Allan
Helotes area residents and Helotes Heritage Association (HHA) members are working together to develop a hiking trail in the Senator Frank L. Madla, Jr., State Natural Area, that will be built and dedicated in the name of Jon Allan. Their efforts at this time are focused on raising awareness and identifying potential sources of funding for this trail.
The HHA is applying for a $5,000 grant from the American Hiking Society’s 2010 National Trails Fund. They have already raised over $2,000 toward the trail and are asking for donations to help with this worthy cause. Any donations or commitments that they can include in the grant application will improve their chances of winning the grant. The grant application/proposal is due by December 15, 2009.
They will proceed with the Jon Allan hiking trail regardless of whether or not they win the grant. The HHA will be pursuing additional funding through fundraising events and other grant proposals. All donations received will go toward this effort.
Please make checks out to HHA and mail your donation to P.O. Box 1324, Helotes, Texas 78023. Note on the check that it is for the Jon Allan hiking trail.
HHA is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, and donations are tax deductible.
