San Antonio Approves Proposition 1 Funds to Buy Land for Senator Frank Madla Natural Area
As reported by the Helotes Heritage Association, the San Antonio City Council has voted unanimously to provide the matching funds to purchase land for the Senator Frank L. Madla, Jr., Natural Area using Proposition 1 funds.
This action will establish a 42-acre park in the memory of Senator Frank L. Madla, Jr., at the corner of Menchaca and Scenic Loop Road. Grey Forest City Council member Jennifer Nottingham represented the City of Grey Forest at the meeting. This was an incredible achievement by Grey Forest in a very short period of time. Congratulations to everyone involved!
The opportunity to establish the Madla Memorial Park was first offered to the City of Helotes, but the Helotes City Council, under Mayor Tom Schoolcraft’s leadership, unanimously, and perhaps shortsightedly, declined the State’s offer.
The leadership and vision shown by Grey Forest Mayor Don Darst and the Grey Forest City Council is greatly appreciated. It is truly inspiring what city officials can do when they keep the interests of their citizens in mind and want to accomplish great things for their community.
