A Disc Golf Demonstration
An agenda has been issued for a meeting of the Helotes City Council and the Parks and Recreation Committee at 10 a.m. on Sunday (Yes! Sunday), August 9, 2009, at the Helotes Natural area located at the corner of FM 1560 and Parrigin Road. This is a public meeting open to everyone.
I attended the Parks and Recreation Committee meeting last Wednesday, and one of the items discussed was having a disc golf demonstration, so I guess that is what this is. The disc golf course will be laid out temporarily to let people try it and see what it’s like.
The committee’s concerns were the same as those raised by Council, primarily safety and liability issues. Corey Peschke, with the San Antonio Disc Golf Association, was at the meeting to discuss the issue. At the end of the discussion, he said that in his opinion the area is too small for a disc golf course.
I contacted the City Secretary who wrote the agenda to verify that this meeting on Sunday, August 9, was for a disc golf demonstration, but she did not know. She said she did not attend the last Parks Committee meeting and she has not seen the minutes yet. The agenda was issued to let the public know about it. No action will be taken at the meeting by either City Council or the Parks and Recreation Committee.
If you’re interested in knowing more about the game of disc golf and how it might be played in Helotes, go to this meeting and check it out.
Personally, I’m not sure that this is what a natural area is supposed to be used for.
