What is the North Sector Plan?
The North Sector Plan is the City of San Antonio (CoSA) Planning/Development Services Department’s plan now under consideration which will become a part of CoSA’s Master Plan, directing planning and development in the northwest (around Helotes) and the northeast areas of San Antonio and Bexar County for the next 5 years.
This plan will direct development in areas around Helotes from Loop 410 to the Bexar County line, determining what will be open space and what will be developed as multi-family/single family, commercial, and industrial areas. The preliminary draft is out and can be viewed at www.northsectorplan.com.
Many on the planning team have worked to get open space designated in the plan as “natural” and “country,” both in northwest and northeast Bexar County. However, other interests are now trying to significantly reduce those designations.
If you value open space, please attend the public meeting open house on June 15, 2010, at the Semme Library in the northeast sector or on June 26, 2010, at the Igo Library in the northwest, between 9 a.m. and noon. You will have an opportunity to make comments at these meeting.
There is also a meeting of the North Sector Planning Team scheduled for July 6, which will probably be held at the Alzafar Shrine on Loop 1604, from 6 to 8 p.m. This is where the other interests are going to try to change the plan based on the comments from the public. It is at this meeting that the individual landowners in the area must make their voices heard.
These two meetings are critical. Your attendance will make the difference. Decisions are going to be made by those who show up.
