Deadline to File to Run for City Council is Monday, March 8
UPDATE 3/8/10: There is a correction to information provided in the original article below. Myfe Moore has filed to run against Ed Villanueva, not David Legendre as stated. Stay tuned for the latest information which will be reported as we receive it. Herald Editor
The deadline to file to run for a position on the Helotes City Council is Monday, March 8, 2010. The paperwork can be picked up at City Hall after 8 a.m. tomorrow and has to be filled out and submitted to Grace Tamez, the City Secretary, by 5 p.m.
The incumbents are Ed Villanueva, Place 1, David Legendre, Place 2, and Cynthia Massey, Place 4. According to City staff, they have all filed to run for re-election to their positions.
Contrary to what was reported in the March 3 edition of the Echo, on February 26, 2010, Gary Johnson did submit his paperwork to run for the position he currently holds on Council, Place 3. This is the first time Johnson has run for election. He was appointed to Council last year to replace Jeff Ellis who had resigned from the Council right after his re-election. Because he was appointed and not elected, Johnson is required to run for his position this year and again next year, assuming he wins this year and wants to run for re-election next year.
Myfe Moore has filed to run for Place 2 which is currently held by David Legendre, so there will be an election this year. However, as of now, all of the other incumbents will be running unopposed.
As stated above, if you are interested in serving on the Helotes City Council, you have until 5 p.m. on Monday, March 8, 2010, to file the paperwork.
The positions don’t pay well ($0), but it can be very rewarding to take an active role in your City’s government.
You know you want to run for City Council. Quit stalling. Go to City Hall tomorrow and turn in your application!
The election will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2010.
