The Time to File to Run for City Council is NOW
If you are thinking about running for a position on the Helotes City Council, or you know someone who is, now is the time to file that application.
The information packets can be obtained at City Hall, 12951 Bandera Road, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. The forms must be filled out and submitted to the City Secretary before 5 p.m. on Monday, March 8, 2010. They can be physically delivered to City Hall, or they can be mailed to the City of Helotes, P.O. Box 507, Helotes, TX 78023.
The election will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2010. The City Council members who will be seeking re-election are Ed Villanueva, David Legendre, and Cynthia Massey. In addition, Council member Gary Johnson will be running for election to finish out the term of the place on Council he has been occupying since being appointed to replace Jeff Ellis, who resigned from Council right after the last election. So, there are four positions on the ballot this year instead of the usual three.
Texas Election Code stipulates that a Campaign Treasurer must be designated and filed with the City Secretary before any money is collected or spent in connection with the campaign. Forms to designate a campaign treasurer can be obtained from the Helotes City Secretary or online from the Texas Ethics Commission’s website at http://www.ethics.state.tx.us; click on Filing Information for Candidates and Officeholders.
