Class Offered on Eliminating Invasive Plants
On Saturday, February 27, 2010, from 8:45 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Helotes Creek Nature Center (HCNC) is hosting a class on Eliminating Invasive Plants. The HCNC is located at 14433 Old Bandera Road in Old Town Helotes. Space is limited to 20 participants.
The Invaders of Texas Program is an innovative campaign whereby volunteer “citizen scientists” are trained to detect the arrival and dispersal of invasive species in their own local areas.
Morning refreshments will be provided, but participants will need to bring a lunch. If available, bring a GPS and digital camera. Wear clothing and shoes appropriate for the weather, as the training will include invasive plant identification field work in nearby Helotes Creek.
To register for the course, go to www.texasinvasives.org/invaders/become.php and download and submit the completed Volunteer Interest Form, as a .pdf or Word file, to San Antonio Invaders satellite leader Rachel Cywinski at urbangardener@satx.rr.com.
For additional information, you can call Rachel at 210-532-4123.
