A Dispute with the City

Fence Involved in Dispute with the City

An article in the current Echo (dated July 1, 2009) states that the Helotes City Council “took” my fence in Old Helotes because I would not agree to their vague encroachment document.

It further states that I have refused to sign an encroachment agreement with the City.  I do not sign agreements when the administration refuses to meet face-to-face with me and my attorney and won’t specify what I am agreeing to.  Smokescreens do not earn my signature on any document with anyone.

I purchased that property to protect it.  I will not risk its use to what I consider to be subversive, harrassing maneuvers.

Fencing with the city or the city fencing in its residents. This is the second story involving alleged encroachments and usurping citizens’ rights on their own properties. One has to remember how the residents behind the CVS Pharmacy construction site were given literally hours to secure their valuables and pets because the builder, with the city’s apparent approval, decided to take the old fence and replace it with a new one, in an obvious attempt to enhance the look of their commercial property. When do we get to decide our property rights? How come Mayor Schoolcraft does not come out swinging against these injustices? It’s not a leveled field. Perhaps he should follow Sarah Palin’s initiative and bow out.
